On the evening of the 5th of January, the day before the Three Kings Day, on which all children in Spain wake up earlier than usual, anxious to open the presents the Three Wise Men have brought them, the streets of all Spanish cities, towns and villages are filled with magic and excitement by the Three Kings Parade.
Every year, this special evening, Melchior, Caspar and Balthasar, together with their huge entourage of pages, helpers, etc., arrive to Palma from Orient by sea and disembark at Port Vell to then parade through Palma on their beautifully decorated carriages and throw out sweets to the crowds of children below.
In some small villages, after their tour through the local streets, Melchior, Caspar and Balthasar themselves hand over the presents to the children, of course providing they have behaved well throughout the year.
According to the mythology, the Three King visited Jesus as a baby in Jerusalem and presented him with gifts of gold, incense and myrrh.
It is no doubt an event worth experiencing. The staff at the Monnaber Nou reception will be pleased to provide you with information about the different parades, times, etc.
